El Grupo de investigación CAVIAR “Calidad de Vida en Arquitectura” está formado por personal Docente e investigador del Departamento de Arquitectura de la Universidad del País Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU). El grupo aborda, desde el ámbito de la Arquitectura, una de las áreas prioritarias y distintivas de la UE, recogida por la European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP): Quality of Life. Ésta hace especial hincapié en la responsabilidad social de los agentes que intervienen en el proceso creativo-constructivo y en la necesidad de articular un diálogo interactivo con los usuarios, de manera que la percepción humana vuelva al primer plano en las actividades de desarrollo e investigación.
CAVIAR (Quality of Life in Architecture) research group is made up of teaching and research staff from the Architecture Department of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). The group addresses, from the field of Architecture, one of the EU’s priorities and distinctive areas, included in the European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP): Quality of Life. It places particular emphasis on the social responsibility of the actors involved in the creative-constructive process and on the need to articulate an interactive dialogue with users. Thus, human perception is brought back to the forefront of development and research activities.

Rufino Javier Hernandez Minguillón
Doctor Arquitecto por la Universidad de Navarra. Profesor catedrático de la Escuela de Arquitectura de San Sebastián – Universidad País Vasco desde 2020. Es el investigador principal de CAVIAR, un grupo de investigación de referencia reconocido por el Gobierno del País Vasco. Más de 20 proyectos de investigación financiados por MICINN (antes MINECO), Ministerio de Industria (CEDETI), Gobierno de Navarra y Gobierno Vasco. Evaluador ANECA y ANEP del área de Ingeniería Civil y Arquitectura. Fundador del estudio Alonso, Hernández & asociados, donde ha obtenido más de 80 primeros premios en concursos de arquitectura y urbanismo.
PhD in Urban Architect from the University of Navarra. Professor at the School of Architecture of San Sebastian – University of the Basque Country since 2020. He is the principal investigator of CAVIAR, a reference research group recognized by the Government of the Basque Country. More than 20 research projects funded by MICINN (formerly MINECO), Ministry of Industry (CEDETI), Government of Navarra and Basque Government. ANECA and ANEP evaluator in the area of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Founder of the firm Alonso, Hernández & asociados, where he has obtained more than 80 first prizes in architecture and urban planning competitions.
Xabat Oregi
Doctor arquitecto por la Universidad del País Vasco – UPV/EHU. Entre 2008 y 2012 trabajó en una consultoría energética. En el ámbito de la investigación, entre 2012-2018 trabajó como investigador en el centro de investigación Tecnalia en el campo de la eficiencia energética y el análisis de ciclo de vida, destacando su participación directa en convocatorias nacionales e internacionales. Desde septiembre de 2018 trabaja como profesor adjunto en el departamento de Arquitectura de la UPV/EHU e investigador en el grupo CAVIAR.
Doctor architect by the University of the Basque Country – UPV/EHU. Between 2008 and 2012 he worked in an energy consultancy. Between 2012 and 2018 he worked as a researcher in the Energy and Environment Division of Tecnalia Research and Innovation research center in the field of energy efficiency and life cycle analysis, highlighting his participation in regional, national and international research projects. Since September of 2018 he works as a professor in the Department of Architecture of the UPV/EHU and as a researcher at CAVIAR group.

Olatz Grijalba Aseguinolaza
Doctora Arquitecta por la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de la UPV/EHU. Desde 2010, es profesora del Departamento de Arquitectura de la UPV/EHU. Integrante del grupo de investigación CAVIAR y responsable de la línea estratégica Regeneración Urbana Integrada. Además, ha participado en varios Proyectos de innovación docente, como la iniciativa ESAZU, jornada y concurso sobre regeneración urbana participativa de barrios vulnerables.
PhD in Architecture from the School of Architecture of the UPV/EHU. Since 2010, she has been a lecturer in the Department of Architecture of the UPV/EHU. Member of the research group CAVIAR and responsible for the strategic line of Integrated Urban Regeneration. In addition, she has participated in several teaching innovation projects, such as the ESAZU initiative, a conference and competition on participatory urban regeneration of vulnerable neighborhoods.
Olatz Irulegi
Profesora Titular de Universidad en el área de Construcciones Arquitectónicas de la ETS Arquitectura UPV/EHU. Tiene reconocido un sexenio de investigación. Es Dra. Arquitecta, Máster en Construcción Sostenible y Eficiencia Energética (UPV/EHU) y Máster en Diseño Arquitectónico (UNAV). Es miembro del grupo de investigación CAVIAR y su línea de trabajo está vinculada con la industrialización, eficiencia energética y sostenibilidad en el entorno construido.
Associate Professor in the Architectural Construction Area at the High School of Architecture in UPV/EHU. She has a recognized six-year period of investigation. She is a PhD Architect, Master in Sustainable Construction and Energy Efficiency (UPV / EHU) and Master in Architectural Design (UNAV). She is a member of the CAVIAR research group and her line of work is linked to industrialization, energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment.
Iñigo Rodríguez Vidal
Arquitecto, titulado por la Universidad del País Vasco (1997), Doctor Arquitecto por la Universidad del País Vasco, (2015). Profesor en la E.T.S. Arquitectura de la Universidad del País Vasco en el área de Construcciones Arquitectónicas (2003). Profesor de diversos masters y miembro del Grupo de Investigación CAVIAR. Líneas de investigación: Edificios de consumo energético casi cero, Construcción sostenible, Construcción en tierra. Diversas publicaciones en el área de la sostenibilidad centradas en la reducción del consumo de energía en Arquitectura.
Architect, graduated from the University of the Basque Country (1997), Doctor of Architecture, University of the Basque Country, (2015). Lecturer at the E.T.S. Architecture of the University of the Basque Country in the area of Architectural Constructions (200-). Lecturer in various masters and member of the CAVIAR Research Group. Lines of research: Near-zero energy consumption buildings, sustainable construction, earth construction. Several publications in the area of sustainability focused on the reduction of energy consumption in Architecture.
Lauren Etxepare
Lauren Etxepare, arquitecto (2000) y Doctor (2008) por la UPV. Profesor Agregado en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura. Director del Departamento de Arquitectura (2010-2015). Ha dirigido siete tesis doctorales y participado en 11 proyectos de investigación. 24 congresos, 12 artículos con impacto, 17 indexados, 5 libros y 4 capítulos. Evaluador en la Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca. Cuenta con un sexenio reconocido CNEAI.
Lauren Etxepare is architect (2000) and PhD (2008) from the University of the Basque Country. Associate Professor at the Higher Technical School of Architecture. Director of the Department of Architecture (2010-2015). He has directed seven doctoral theses and participated in 11 research projects. 24 conferences, 12 articles with impact, other 17 indexed, 5 books and 4 chapters. Evaluator in the Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca. One period of 6 years on research work, recognized by the CNEAI.
José Antonio Millán
Miembro del Grupo ENEDI. Profesor titular de Ingeniería de la Energía en la Escuela de Ingeniería de Gipuzkoa, 30 años de experiencia docente e investigadora. Mi especialización en la transferencia de humedad en edificios durante el desarrollo doctoral y la definición del Laboratorio para la medición y caracterización de propiedades higrotérmicas en materiales de construcción, me ha proporcionado una intensa experiencia en el campo instrumental y experimental en el Laboratorio.
Member of the ENEDI Group. Associate Professor of Energy Engineering at the Technical School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa, 30 years of teaching and research experience. My specialization in the transfer of humidity in buildings during the doctoral development and the definition of the Laboratory for the measurement and characterization of hygrothermal properties in construction materials, has provided me with an intense experience in the instrumental and experimental field in the Laboratory.

Matxalen Etxebarría Mallea
Doctora Arquitecta por la Universidad del País Vasco (2020); máster por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (2014). Miembro e investigadora del Grupo de Investigación CAVIAR desde 2018 y miembro del Comité Organizador del Congreso Europeo EESAP12+CICA5 desde su octava edición. Durante los últimos cinco años, ha participado en congresos internacionales y publicado diversos artículos científicos en revistas del primer y segundo cuartil.
PhD Architect by the University of the Basque Country (2020); Master Degree at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (2014). Member and researcher of CAVIAR Research Group since 2018 and member of the Organizing Committee of EESAP12+CICA5 European Conference since its eight edition. During the last five years, she has participated in international conferences and published diverse scientific papers in first and second quarter journals.
